Cheap Funeral lists lower-cost funeral homes in each state, cheapest first, using the direct cremation and burial prices we have on file. Prices can be out of date. Only the home's current General Price List is binding, so ask for it before you agree to anything.

What this site is

A free directory of budget-friendly U.S. funeral homes. Each state page lists the homes whose prices on file fall at the low end for that state, along with the state's median prices for direct cremation and immediate burial. Every listing links to the home's full profile on FuneralUS, our main funeral home directory. Our guides explain your rights and the ways to cut the bill.

What this site is not

We're not a funeral home and we don't sell funeral services. We're not affiliated with the National Funeral Directors Association or any state funeral directors association. How we work

1. Prices on file, not estimates. Every price we show is one recorded for that home in our database. For some homes we hold a copy of the General Price List it came from. For others we can't always show the document behind it. We don't guess what a funeral "should" cost.
2. No medians from thin data. We only publish a median when at least 10 homes have that price on file. Below that, the number says too little to be useful.
3. Guides cite their sources. Our guides point to the rules they rely on, such as the FTC Funeral Rule (16 CFR Part 453), the Social Security Act and the VA, and show when they were last checked. They're general information, not legal or financial advice.
4. We say what we don't know. Prices change, and ours can lag behind. Some homes have no price on file. Some states don't have enough prices for a median.

Which homes make the state lists

A home is listed on its state page when at least one of these is true:

• Its direct cremation price is below the state's 25th percentile.
• Its starting price is at most 75% of the state median.
• Its record is tagged as a budget, affordable, direct-cremation, co-op or funeral-society provider.

These are price comparisons, not discounts or coupons. The price you pay is whatever the home's current General Price List says. The full rules are on the methodology page.

Where the data comes from

• Prices come from the funeral home database our network of sites shares with FuneralUS.
• State and national medians are recalculated from that database at least hourly. Each table shows when its price data was last refreshed.
• Ratings and review counts come from each home's Google business profile.
